Sinai Temple and Akiba Academy embarked on a journey to explore possible expansion scenarios on its very tight urban campus – a campus that has seen expansions and alterations over the years without an overall clear cohesive strategy, evolving into a confusing interaction between the various uses within.

Our proposal considers celebrating a new grand entry on Ashton with a central spine that cuts through the various buildings to create a zone for intersections and gathering spaces as a way to clarify uses and wayfinding. The Spine responds to the need for a Community space that allows members and visitors to gather and activate the property that is not currently present. A future expansion across Ashton, relocating the PreSchool with new outdoor play and pickup area, a new Performing & Creative Arts building with a theater and gallery space, and an elevated sports field above multiple levels of additional parking below.
